Growing up without a father and a mother that was raising other people’s children I had to find elders who cared. Malcolm X was always, and will always be, one of my favorites. Malcolm X: The Last Speeches edited by Bruce Perry shows exactly why. Perry put together a group of speeches by Malcolm X that are just as important today as when Malcolm spoke them. I always loved Malcolm because he gave analysis of whole systems and tied them to our daily lives. He also never stopped growing. If Malcolm saw that an organization was lacking he would move on, creating institutions from scratch if necessary. So many leaders become comfortable where they are.
